Bass Harbor Head Light is a lighthouse located on the southwestern coast of Mount Desert Island in Tremont, Maine, USA. It was first constructed in 1858, and the current tower was built in 1876. The lighthouse stands at a height of 56 feet (17 m) above mean high water, and its light is visible for 13 nautical miles (24 km). The tower is made of brick and is painted white. It is surrounded by beautiful natural scenery and can be reached via a short hiking trail. The lighthouse and its surrounding area have been designated as a historic district and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the lighthouse is still operational and is maintained by the US Coast Guard. It is a popular spot for tourists to visit and take photographs.
