The Bridge of Toledo, also known as Puente de Toledo, is a historic bridge that spans the Manzanares River in Madrid, Spain. It was built between 1718 and 1732 under the direction of Pedro de Ribera, a Spanish architect who was a leading exponent of the Baroque style in Madrid.
The bridge has a length of 260 meters (853 feet) and features nine semicircular arches. It was built with granite and limestone blocks, and adorned with Baroque sculptures on the pillars and along the balustrades. These sculptures were created by the famous Spanish sculptors Juan Domingo Olivieri and Pedro de Mena.
The Bridge of Toledo has had a significant role in Madrid's history. During the Spanish War of Independence in the early 19th century, French troops blew up the central arch of the bridge to prevent Spanish forces from crossing the river. It was rebuilt in 1842 and has been an important transportation link between the districts of Carabanchel and Arganzuela ever since.
