Cerro Tronador is a mountain in the southern Andes, located on the border between Argentina and Chile. It is part of the Nahuel Huapi National Park, which is a protected area in the Patagonia region of Argentina. The mountain has three peaks, the highest of which is at an elevation of 3,478 meters (11,411 feet).
The name "Tronador" means "thunderer" in Spanish, and refers to the sound of falling ice and snow from the mountain's glaciers. The mountain is a popular destination for tourists and mountaineers, who come to hike, climb, and ski on its slopes.
One of the highlights of Cerro Tronador is the Ventisquero Negro glacier, which is the largest glacier in the Nahuel Huapi National Park. The glacier is about 5 km long and has a surface area of approximately 10 km². Visitors can take guided tours to explore the glacier and its ice caves.
Another popular attraction in Cerro Tronador is the Los Alerces waterfall, which is fed by the glaciers on the mountain. The waterfall is accessible by a short hike from the base of the mountain.
