Set on the south side of Valladolid’s picturesque Parque Principal (Main Square), the Iglesia de San Servacio (also called San Gervasio) is one of the city’s most striking landmarks. With its twin bell towers and elegant colonial façade, the church is a beautiful example of Yucatán’s spiritual and architectural heritage.
The first church on this site was built in 1545, shortly after the founding of Valladolid. However, after a turbulent period of conflict known as the “Crime of the Mayors” in the early 18th century, the church was demolished by order of Bishop Pedro de los Reyes Ríos de Lamadrid. The present structure was rebuilt in 1706, facing the city’s main square, symbolizing both renewal and resilience.
