Vilnius Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church located in the Old Town of Vilnius, Lithuania. It is the main church of the Archdiocese of Vilnius and is one of the oldest and most important churches in Lithuania.
The current Cathedral was built on the site of an earlier pagan temple in the 14th century and has undergone numerous renovations and additions since then. It features a mix of architectural styles, including Gothic, Baroque, and Classical.
The interior of the Cathedral is decorated with impressive frescoes, paintings, and sculptures, including the Chapel of St. Casimir, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful Baroque chapels in Eastern Europe. The Cathedral also houses the crypts of several notable figures from Lithuanian history, including Grand Dukes of Lithuania and other prominent figures.
Vilnius Cathedral has played an important role in the history of Lithuania, serving as a venue for important ceremonies and events. It was the site of the coronation of Lithuania's first king, Mindaugas, in 1253, and it was also where Lithuania's Declaration of Independence was read in 1918.
