The Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, also known as the Oslo Opera House, is a cultural institution located in the Bjørvika neighborhood of Oslo, Norway. The opera house was designed by the Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta and opened in 2008.
The building is situated on the waterfront and has a distinctive angled roof that slopes down to the ground, creating a large public plaza that extends to the harbor. Visitors can walk up the roof to take in panoramic views of Oslo and the surrounding fjords.
The interior of the opera house features two main performance spaces: the main stage, which can seat up to 1,364 people, and a smaller stage called the studio, which can accommodate up to 400 people. Both spaces are designed to provide excellent acoustics for opera and ballet performances.
In addition to performances, the opera house also offers tours, workshops, and educational programs for children and adults. The building has won numerous awards for its architecture and has become a landmark in Oslo.
